ABOUT
AMELIA WALKER
Compassion and acceptance, IN A SUPPORTIVE space
With 15 years’ experience in the world of health, wellbeing and mental health, a post-graduate degree in Counselling (ACAP), I aim to provide for holistic, non-judgemental care for my clients under the stipulations of PACFA as a Certified Practicing Counsellor. (Registration number: 26866).
My core values; compassion, genuine interest in others and belief in one’s autonomy, fuel my work as a counsellor.
My work involves:
One-to-One Counselling
Spokesperson, educator and clinical content creator for an Australian-wide perinatal (ante and post natal) mental health organisation.
Implementing and managing the clinical intake program for a an Australian-wide perinatal (ante and post natal) mental health organisation.
Co-facilitation of a group treatment program for mothers experiencing perinatal anxiety and depression (PNDA) and co-facilitation of an anxiety support group.
Additionally, my education and professional experience in the Creative Arts, alongside counselling tertiary students in this space, has enhanced my awareness of the complex pressures specific to that environment.
For over a decade, I established and managed healthcare clinics in London. Prior to this I undertook my Bachelor of Arts in Literature, Film and Theatre (UNSW) and Advanced Diploma in Acting (ACA). First-hand experience in the therapy room, and subsequent positive life changes have also influenced my approach with clients.
The culmination of these experiences developed my fascination with the complexities of human nature, and - married with my passion for understanding people - led me to pursue my work as a counsellor.
There is no other relationship like a therapeutic one. this unique dynamic enables safe exploration toward self- acceptance.
HOW WE MIGHT WORK TOGETHER
With the foundation of my counselling in Person-Centred Therapy and completion of the Australian Psychoanalytical Society’s Psychodynamic Psychotherapeutic course, I integrate therapeutic approaches to support challenges and change. I do so with a sense of hope that you may experience true self-acceptance through the process.
I encourage reflection on somatic (body) experiences. Somatic observation can be a gentle but powerful aspect of our work together.
If you feel counselling may be beneficial, please contact me so we can confidentially discuss how we can work together.
